Have a 53 plate 2litre SType. The engine coolant low warning is nearly always constantly on. I was told probably sensor on header tank so thought j might just as well just replace complete header tank with sensor.
However I made an observation Saturday that when travelling on motorway the warning us not present nor is the light.

However as soon as off motorway. On normal round town roads the warning is permanently on. But when back in the motorway its permanently off again. Any body throw any light on this???? Hello Tara, I'm in agreement with the other chaps therefore, do not believe it will be an expensive resolve to the problem, old luck. If it was thermostat related you expect either over heating or taking forever to reach a normal running temperature. You can post now and register later. Keep containers sealed and out of the reach of children. If accidental consumption is suspected, seek medical attention immediately. When traveling in territories where the water supply contains salt, always make sure to carry a supply of fresh rain or distilled water. Topping up with salt water causes serious engine damage. The use of non-approved antifreeze has an adverse effect on the engine's cooling system and, therefore, engine durability.
Antifreeze damages painted surfaces. Soak up any spillage with an absorbent cloth immediately. Wash the area with a mixture of car shampoo and water. Antifreeze contains important corrosion inhibitors. To make sure the anti-corrosion properties of the coolant are maintained, the antifreeze content should be checked once a year. Regardless of the distance traveled, the antifreeze should be replaced every 10 years.
Failure to do so may cause corrosion of the radiator and engine components. Make sure that the correct mixture of water and antifreeze is used. In an emergency, and only if the approved antifreeze is unavailable, top up the cooling system with clean water. Be aware of the resultant reduction in frost protection. Do not top up or refill with conventional antifreeze formulations.

Anyone else had this problem? Warning came back today. After about 8 months and a long 4 hours motorway journey the coolant low light came on, looked at the coolant level under the bonnet and it was low, dropped into the nearest Jaguar garage who couldn't find a leak and topped it up.
How to Add Coolant: Jaguar XF (2009-2015)
I've been topping it up if I notice it low, with water, if the weather temperature started dropping I'd have sourced the correct coolant. I don't drive it very often at the moment and waited for its 1st service this week. Jaguar did a pressure test which failed, they then topped up the coolant correctly and apparently the pressure test passed.
They kept the car 2 days trying to reproduce which included some motorway driving to bring it up to temperature but still nothing. So I've agreed to take it home and bring it back first week in Dec for them to recheck. Personally, I'd have replaced the relevant parts which I'll push for if it happens again. On the plus side during the service they performed a software update, I now have apple car play I asked about it back in Jan with a different dealer, the response being did I pay for it?
Lack of service with the 1st dealer is something I'd unfortunately gotten used to. Paying for a premium brand doesn't necessarily mean better service. The experience with the new dealer has been much better though. I have also noticed that the hood is not closing properly with one side slightly higher than the other. It goes into dealers this week and they are going to adjust the headlights as well as I'm fed up with being flashed when on dipped beam, ill let you know how I get on.
Andyben you could be right about wet patch but coolant level is still dropping slowly. Bonnet right hand catch wasn't engaging, now fixed and headlights adjusted. Follow Us.Skip to content. I certainly used it on my previous one for a small top up and it was fine. I mentioned a small drop of about 5mm on the tank to my service dept about my current one and the top tech said to just use water for such a small drop as the amount of dilution was negligible. That's what I did, and was still fine to drive around the arctic circle after checking again. I needed to top up my coolant once every two months travelling only km.
I rubbed the damaged area of the lip to flatten it and so far this has worked to stop further coolant loss. No damaged was seen as well. Have you checked underneath the car in the morning to see any damp patches or coloured stains from coolant? Follow Us. Copyright Not associated with Jaguar.
